Mark Dimond / Frankie Dante - Beethoven's V
Cotique CS-1075
Released 1975
Produced by Larry Harlow
Out of print. Check Amazon. This album presumably will be reissued by Fania/E-musica in near future.
1. Sabroson 4:23 (M. Dimond)
2. Los Rumberos 5:51 (D.R.)
3. Ahora Si 4:09 (M. Dimond)
4. El Quinto De Beethoven 5:41 (M. Dimond)
5. Maraquero 4:52 (M. Dimond)
6. Yo No Tengo Amigo 4:38 (D.R.)
7. Camarones 4:44 (M. Dimond)
8. Por Que Adore 5:53 (C. Curet Alonso)
All songs arranged by Mark Dimond (except “Yo No Tengo Amigo” arranged by Marty Sheller). Every song is interesting and danceable. Ahora Si and Maraquero are good for Cha Cha - somewhat less so for Camarones. All others are Salsa - different favorites for different people whether it's Los Rumberos, Yo No Tengo Amigo or Por Que Adore. Most of the backup musicians are from Larry Harlow's Orchestra Harlow.

HYH-thanks for this very well done & informative blog. I especially liked the write up on this under-appreciated masterpiece. It contains a track that I think is one of the greatest Salsa numbers ever, "Por que Adore." Having foolishly missed my chance to buy it at a price I could afford some years ago, I can only hope you are right that emusica will reissue it as part of the remastered Fania catalog. The sooner the better!
ReplyDeleteCSB
Well yes, it WILL get released remastered, just like other albums from the Cotique Records (Fania) catalogue have also been released remastered.
ReplyDeleteIt may take some time to see this one released because Emusica are OBSESSED with the most famous/popular artist.
Having said that, they still have released in 2007 Frankie Dante & Orquesta Flamboyan Different Directions, and in 2006 Mark Dimond Brujeria (under a Limited Edition of approx. 5000 copies, disgracefully!)
(Type Fania under Label at www.cduniverse.com for the full listings, details and soundlips.)
For those lucky enough to know this album...
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best latin albums I've ever heard !
Pure class !!
