This is a sonically very clean recording more typical of outstanding jazz recordings as opposed to many of the classic Salsa or Mambo recordings. In fact the album is also available in SACD format.
The album fits the category of Latin Jazz better than Salsa, and pretty much all songs are without a vocalist. The album as whole is very nice to listen to.
Mambo Mongo made salsanewyork.com list although a more typical version (also a little slower paced and shorter) known for Salsa is from Mongo Santamaria’s 1970’s original rendition of the song from the album “Afro Indio” under the Fania label.
